Celebrate Chulalongkorn Memorial Day by joining us on a three day, fully supported road cycling tour in the Chiang Mai region. Ride through the most beautiful valleys, over challenging hills and discover why Chiang Mai is fast becoming a popular road cyclist’s location. Cycle up to the famous Doi Suthep temple with magnificent views over the city, and ride the classic Samoeng Loop with its challenging climbs and exciting downhill stages.
Friday 22 October – Chiang Mai
Arrivals. Cyclists pick up from airport if required and transfer to the hotel.
Saturday 23 October – Chiang Mai to Mae Wang; 115km (645m climbing, 465m Max. Altitude)
Today we will enjoy mostly flat cycling, with some amazing undulating roads in the middle section, through a breathtaking valley to the South West of Chiang Mai city. Leaving town via some quiet back roads we will arrive at the “Canal Rd”, a stretch popular with local road cyclists, then on through some local village roads to arrive in Mae Wang town. Continuing we cycle alongside a river with views of white water rapids, past an elephant camp run by Karen hill tribesmen and through several local communities. We will pause in a small village at the end of the valley for a breather and a chat with the locals before heading back to Chiang Mai along the same route. Free afternoon to discover Chiang Mai.
Sunday 24 October – Chiang Mai – Samoeng; 85km (1620m climbing, 1150m Max. Altitude)
Today is a challenging day with some long steep climbing through the hills just outside Chiang Mai. After conquering two such climbs you’ll be grateful for the spectacular views over the Doi Inthanon mountain range and the exciting downhill riding as we rush back towards the city. Ride through rural villages, past lush green rice fields and catch glimpses of elephants in the jungle. This is a demanding days cycling but one which has huge rewards and is a classic ride on every Chiang Mai cyclists favourite riding list! A must do for road cyclists. Free afternoon to discover Chiang Mai.
Monday 25 October – Chiang Mai – Doi Suthep; 28km (880m climbing, 1015m Max. Altitude)
Finish your weekends cycling with us with a short morning ride before heading back home. Our ride this morning takes us up to one of the most spectacular places in the Chiang Mai area. No keen cyclist should go home without experiencing this classic ascent on our doorstep! A short but unforgettable ride – a 700m climb over 12km. Standing high on a mountain, 1000m above sea level, is the Buddhist temple – Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Winding and climbing up on a fantastic road you can see the city dropping further and further below and the views are just spectacular. The ride back down to the city will remain with you in your memory for a long time to come. If you haven’t ridden up Doi Suthep you have to do this ride!
