Shimano's top-of-the-line Dura Ace 9-speed group was introduced in 1997 and discontinued in 2004. The 9-speed Dura Ace group is also known as the Shimano's 7700-series line. While in production, the 7700-series group was the choice of most pro-tour cyclists. The subsequent Dura Ace 10-speed groups (i.e., the 7800 and 7900 series components) are slightly lighter, but from a quality perspective the 7700 series components are second to none. The quality of materials, attention to detail, and level of polish lavished on the 9-speed group are the best I have seen. The picture below shows a collector's set containing the full 9-speed group (and bonus watch) commemorating the 25th anniversary of Dura Ace-the line was introduced in 1973.
